A Flocknote alternative for churches on Planning Center.
Flocknote is a full church platform: texting, email, giving, and a member database. Butter does one of those things, the newsletter, and builds it from Planning Center. Here is how to tell which one you need.
Flocknote details from its own site, checked October 2026.
The short version
Choose Flocknote if
- You want texting, email, giving, and a member database in one tool.
- Your church does not use Planning Center.
- You are a Catholic parish that needs sacrament tracking or religious education registration. Flocknote is built for that.
Choose Butter if
- Planning Center is already where your people live.
- The newsletter is the part you want to be easier, and better looking.
- You want events to come across from Planning Center instead of being typed in twice.
Side by side
What it costs
Monthly prices. Flocknote Starter is priced by members and includes texting and giving; Butter is priced by email contacts and is only the newsletter. So this is not like for like, but it is what you would pay.
Flocknote is free up to 40 members. Butter’s full pricing.
FAQs
If yours is not here, email us at support@butterhq.com.
Is Flocknote free?
For churches of 40 members or fewer, Flocknote Starter is free. Above that it is priced by member count: $58 a month for 201 to 400 members, for example, and Flocknote Complete adds $75 a month on top. Figures from Flocknote’s pricing page, October 2026.
Does Flocknote work with Planning Center?
We could not find a Planning Center integration in Flocknote’s help center in October 2026, so people would come across by import. If that has changed, tell us and we will update this page.
Can Butter send text messages?
No. Butter sends email newsletters. If texting is central to how your church communicates, Flocknote or a texting tool that syncs with Planning Center is the better fit.
Can we use Flocknote for texting and Butter for the newsletter?
You can, but you would be keeping two lists of people: one in Flocknote, and Planning Center for Butter. Most churches are better off picking the tool that matches where their people already live.
How do I move our newsletter from Flocknote to Butter?
Connect Planning Center and your lists are already there. Send us your last Flocknote newsletter and we will rebuild it in Butter so you are not starting from a blank page. The same move from Mailchimp takes about five minutes.
